Le vice-ministre israélien des Affaires étrangères Danny Ayalon a rencontré ce matin 14 policiers israéliens qui s’apprêtent à quitter Jérusalem pour rejoindre une force internationale de police sous le commandement des forces des Nations Unies en poste en Haïti. La délégation sera le premier contingent d’Israël à servir sous les ordres de l’ONU. C’est Haïti qui a réclamé l’aide policière israélienne, en plus des nombreux médecins qui voyagent mensuellement sur place pour aider les populations locales. Leur mission sera d'aider la Mission de stabilisation des Nations Unies en Haïti (Minustah) dans le maintien de l'ordre public.


Le vice-ministre des Affaires étrangères a félicité les officiers volontaires et leur dit l’importance de leur missions: « Vous êtes le vrai visage d’Israël. La valeur de la vie humaine est importante pour nous tous et de vous allez représenter Israël et l’esprit juif de Tikkun Olam (réparation du monde) à la face de la communauté internationale », a déclaré Ayalon aux policiers. « Vous avez déjà fait vos preuves lors du terrible tremblement de terre, lorsque vous étiez parmi les premiers à tenter de sauver un maximum de vies. Vous perpétuer ainsi cette tradition sioniste et humaniste de venir en aide aux populations en détresse. Votre objectif est de sauver des vies humaines et d’aider à rétablir la loi et l’ordre en Haïti.


C’est la notre position position dans le monde, qui est particulièrement importante pour lutter contre ceux qui mènent campagne pour délégitimer notre pays. Cette mission permettra de démontrer aux amis et ennemis d’Israël que nous sommes toujours prêt à contribuer de manière bénévole partout et tout le temps, au bien être des nations. Il est important pour les gens de voir Israël au-delà du conflit et de voir que c’est là le vrai visage Israël. Nous ne sommes pas seulement fort matériellement, mais aussi dans nos esprits. Ce que vous faites partie de notre politique étrangère de coopération ».

Ilan Franco, le vice-commandant des forces de police a dit que c’était l’honneur d’Israël de rétablir l’ordre public en Haïti. « Notre contingent part pour Haïti pour un certain nombre de mois. Cette mission a été coordonnée entre le ministère de la sécurité internationale, celui des Affaires étrangères et la police israélienne. Je suis fier de dire que cette délégation est composée de nos meilleurs forces »


Des représentants de l’Organisation des Nations Unies ont reconnu la contribution d’Israël et ont félicité les agents israéliens sur leur bravoure et leur engagement. Comme exemple de cet engagement, deux policiers ont retardé leur mariage pour prendre part à cette mission… Sans compter deux autres dont les femmes vont accoucher alors qu’ils seront à Port-au-Prince. L’un deux à d’ailleurs déclaré: « Même si ce sera mon premier enfant, je m’engage personnellement aller au bout de cette mission avec le plein soutien de ma femme »
